          History

Discovered in 1735 by Georg Brandt in Stockholm, Sweden.  the name is derived from the German word "kobald" meaning goblin.

          Uses
  • Co60 is an important isotope used as gamma radiation source.
  • Salts used to impart blue color in glass, pottery, tiles, and enamels.
  • Used in alloys for magnetic applications.
  • Used in steel making to Improve hardness and hot strength. Also used to enhance effects of other elements in complex steels.
